Dog Training FAQ
By Chad Singer, Canine Revolution Dog Training
You’ve got questions. Here are straight answers.
Is Board and Train Worth It?
It’s worth it if the program transfers the training to you, that’s the whole test. You’re not buying a trained dog handed back at the door. The people-training phase takes longer than the board and train did.
How Long Does Board and Train Take?
A two-week board and train is a red flag, and anything under four weeks is typically not ideal. We run six weeks, because that’s what it takes to build the foundation, build the training, and then proof it in the real world.
What Age Should My Dog Be for Board and Train?
Puppies start once vaccinations are complete, usually around 16 to 17 weeks. Adult dogs can start at any age. But puppy training starts the day your puppy comes home, not the day the program does.
What Is Balanced Dog Training?
All four quadrants of operant conditioning instead of one. Positive-only trainers are working from one. E-collar-only trainers are working from two. Balanced means having the whole toolbox when the dog in front of you needs something different.
How Do I Stop My Dog from Pulling on the Leash?
Pulling is a conditioned response, not defiance, which is why a stronger collar doesn’t fix it. Five phases, in order, starting with engagement.
